DATES: August 23–August 27

Pinhole and plastic cameras enable the photographer to work intuitively and with refreshing spontaneity, leaving high-tech equipment behind. There is no doubt that these simple cameras add surprise, serendipity and surreal aspects to imagemaking.

Participants will build their own 4x5 pinhole cameras and explore distinct pinhole qualities such as wide angle distortions and infinite depth of field. Also, each student will receive a plastic camera and discover the unique optics achieved shooting through a plastic lens. The range of visual effects produced with these simple cameras is limitless.

Students will turn their cameras toward the Cape Cod environment and return to the classroom to discuss the technical and aesthetic results.
