Sheryl Jaffe returns from Japan offering a delightful workshop, that combines the ancient Japanese papermaking process called Kozo with the rich 19th century photo processes of cyanotype and Van Dyke Brown.
Discover the shimmering luminescent qualities of photographic images printed on Kozo, the mulberry fiber favored by the Japanese for their finest and strongest hand made papers.
In this workshop we will make unique papers using western and eastern sheet forming techniques exploring the sensitive qualities of kozo, flax and abaca. The Van Dyke and Cyanotype chemistries form a perfect marriage of materials with these papers. Each photograph becomes a unique object.
The techniques acquired during the classpapermaking, enlarging negatives and handcoatinging emulsionswill prove invaluable for future explorations in fine art photography
